Rhetorical and Critical Studies

In this course, the student learns about rhetoric and criticism and some of their topics. He learns how to appreciate aesthetic and rhetorical methods, how to analyze literary texts and discover their secrets through understanding and application. The book comes in two units: 1) The first unit - Rhetorical Studies -: is concerned with the science of rhetoric, where we know its origins, goals, and sciences. Then we delve into its most important topics through four topics and chapters: (preface and definition, topics in the science of meanings, topics in the science of rhetoric, and topics in the science of badi’). 2) The second unit - Critical Studies -: In which we navigate the world of Arab literary criticism, trace its origins and development, and learn how to criticize and analyze various literary arts such as stories and poetry, and how to discover what is behind words. The unit comes in six topics and chapters: (Literary criticism, history of literary criticism, poetry criticism, models of applied criticism of poetry, prose criticism, models of applied criticism of the story)

Rhetorical studies (preface and definition, rhetoric in language and terminology, the two pillars of rhetoric, the definition of the science of meanings, predicate and construction, multiply the predicate, the two types of construction, from the topics of the demand construction, shortening, the definition of the science of rhetoric, simile, metaphor, metonymy, definition of the science of the exquisite, among the moral improvements , of verbal enhancers). Critical studies (the concept of criticism and the difference between it and rhetoric, the function of literary criticism, ancient literary criticism, literary criticism in the period of prosperity, literary criticism in the modern era, poetry and its types, standards of poetry criticism, Al-Khansa’a, a critical reading of a contemporary poem, models of applied criticism on poetry Criticism of the story, criteria for criticism of the story, criticism of a short story - O Sleeper, Unite God -, examples of criticism applied to the story.
